There were many thrilling races at the 2018 World Rowing Masters Regatta at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota. But the most amazing race was a ‘none-race’ on Friday. Down the course came a lone boat. From the loud-speakers at the finish tower, we were informed that this was a men’s eight with a crew whose average age was 80.
They might not have had as a powerful stroke as in their younger days, but the stroke rate was determined and steady and the oarsmen had their eyes in the boat – what a beautiful sight.
Rowing is truly the most amazing sport in the world – hands down!
Total respect to these dudes.
