Göran R Buckhorn writes that it is time for a new book signing for HTBS poet Philip Kuepper on Saturday, 10 June:
After HTBS poet Philip Kuepper’s success signing his book A Sea To Row By – Poems in one of the book shops in Mystic, Connecticut, last month, it is time for Philip to do his second book signing, on Saturday, 11 June, between 1 and 3 p.m., now at Mystic Seaport Bookstore, the largest maritime bookstore in America. This bookstore, where Philip once worked, is connected to Mystic Seaport – The Museum of America and the Sea, the largest maritime museum in America.
During the coming weekend, the museum is hosting its 37th annual Sea Music Festival, which is one of the world’s premier sea music events, which starts tomorrow, Thursday. The musicians at this year’s festival come from England, Ireland, the Netherlands and Canada, along with singers and musicians from all over the USA.
It is fitting that Philip signs his book of rowing poems in a milieu like this. Maybe some of the musicians would like to put music to Philip’s poems? To learn more about Philip and his poetry read a HTBS interview with the poet from May here.
Mystic Seaport Bookstore has a wonderful selection of books on all kind of maritime subjects. The store also has a section of maritime out-of-print books (sorry, no rowing books left, this writer has checked) and many, many back issues of Wooden Boat Magazine (some with articles on wooden rowing shells). Mystic Seaport Bookstore is run by Larry Kelly, who is the bookstore manager – a more helpful book shop fellow is hard to find!
