On its website, British Rowing reports the death of one of Great Britain’s greatest oarsmen and servants of the sport, Christopher Guy Vere Davidge, who passed away on Monday 22 December at an age of 85 years.
Davidge, who rowed in three Oxford crews in the beginning of the 1950s, served British rowing in many different ways: he was the President of ARA between 1977 and 1985, was a Steward of Henley Royal Regatta, was involved in the international rowing community as a member of the world rowing’s governing body, FISA, and Vice presidency of the British Olympic Association. He was awarded the Medal of Honour for his outstanding service to the sport in 1973. Read more about Christopher Davidge’s life here.
