The 2019 European Universities Rowing Championships starts today.
Over a three-month period, the 2019 European Universities Championships in 22 university sports have taken place at 17 different venues across Europe. Today is the opening day for the 23rd sport and 18th and last of these championships, the 2019 European Universities Rowing Championships in Jönköping, Sweden. The rowing championships are held between 4 and 7 September.
More than 500 rowers from 90 universities from 25 European countries will race in the following boat classes:
- Men: LM1x, M1x, M2x, LM2-, LM2x, M2-, LM4-, M4-, LM4x, M4x, M8+
- Women: LW1x, W1x, W2-, LW2x, W2x, W4-, W4x, LW4x, W8+

The length of the race course on Lake Munksjön, which is located in the centre of Jönköping, is 1,810 metres.
Jönköping, one of the oldest towns in the country, established in 1284, is the center in Sweden for athletes who want to combine rowing with studies, either at Sanda Idrottscentrum, an upper secondary school in the close by town of Huskvarna, or at Jönköping University, which is located on the western side of Lake Munksjön. This makes it possible for Swedish rowers to combine higher studies with training, often together with the Swedish national rowing team.
