Göran R Buckhorn writes:
Here follows chapter 7 of “The Seven Seat: A True Story of Rowing, Redemption, and Revenge”, Dan Boyne’s tale about his rowing and sculling days in the 1970s at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, a series published on Row2K’s website.
In this chapter, “A Woman of Substance”, Dan Boyne is using an oxymoron (or is it a redundancy?) to try to impress a beautiful, exotic girl, whose almond-coloured eyes are easy to drown in. When the young woman insists on an arm wrestle match, foul play (beer in his eyes!) makes our hero lose both the match and the girl. Who said it was easy to impress a woman when you are an oarsman?
