Tomorrow, Saturday 22 August, a slightly different rowing regatta will be held on the Charles River in Boston. Outside the Riverside Boat Club, on a 2 x 250-metre course, 21 clubs will row the so-called Red Bull High Stakes, which are relay-races up to a stake buoy, row around it, and row back again. Each team has 15 rowers and one cox racing in a single, a double, a quad and an eight. Two teams will be racing head to head, starting with the eight, round the stake and back to the start line, where the team’s next boat, the quad, will take off, then follows the double and the single scull. The fastest teams will advance through the bracket and meet for the final race.
One British, five Canadian and 15 American teams have registered for the Red Bull High Stakes, which is hosted by Red Bull North America. The regatta will start with the athletes checking in at 10 a.m. Races are between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The website for Red Bull High Stakes offers the following information for spectators: ‘There is significant space available for spectators on the grassy area along the course at the DCR Magazine Beach Park. Please note that there is no on-site parking available so spectators must take public transportation or park at a nearby parking lot/garage and walk to the venue.’
