The Telegraph Sports Book Awards 2020 winners were digitally announced on 15 July.
Winner of the category “General Outstanding Sports Writing” went to Mind Games by Annabel ‘Annie’ Vernon, Olympic silver medallist and two-time World Champion in the quadruple sculls.
After the announcement Vernon tweeted ‘Just wow. I might be sat on the sofa feeding my month-old new baby rather than collecting the award in a posh frock drinking champagne, but I’m as proud as punch with this accolade’.
Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the traditional celebration at the Lord’s Cricket Ground had been replaced with a ‘digitally announcement’.
Mind Games, which came out last year, is Vernon’s first book and was published by Bloomsbury Publishing. The book looks at the psychology of elite sport through a mixture of academic theories and interviews with sports people.
