Sarah Trowbridge has been appointed head coach of the high performance rowing program at Vesper Boat Club. Last year, Trowbridge coached Ellen Tomek and Meghan O’Leary, who rowed in the U.S. women’s double scull, which placed sixth in the A final at the Olympic Games in Rio. The previous year, Trowbridge coached the U.S. men’s pair, Anders Weiss and Nareg Guregian, to a ninth place in the World Championships, which secured the duo a 2016 Olympic qualification.
Trowbridge, who also spent three years in New Haven as the first assistant coach at Yale, has had an international career in the double and quadruple sculls, and fours. At the Olympic rowing in London, she and Margot Shumway took a sixth place in the double sculls. Trowbridge took silver medals in the quadruple at the 2009 World Championships and in the fours at the 2008 World Championships.
Kirk Beckman, president of Vesper BC, said in a statement: ‘We are happy to welcome Sarah to the Vesper family. We believe that she will continue to grow our high performance program, and will develop successful athletes.’
Vesper BC is now hoping that Trowbridge can coach the club’s athletes towards medals at coming World Championships, and help its rowers to reach the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
HTBS had the great pleasure to meet Sarah Trowbridge in October 2013.
