The 52nd annual Head of the Charles Regatta ended on Sunday. As usual, some of the world’s elite female and male rowers had gathered to battle on the Charles. Genevra Stone (Cambridge, USA) won the Women’s Championship Singles, while the Men’s Championship Singles was won by Kjertil Borch (Horten RK, Norway).
In the Women’s Championship Doubles, Kim Brennan and Emma Twiggs (Melbourne Uni. Comp.) crossed the finish line first. J. Keen and E. Frid (Penn AC) won the Men’s Championship Doubles. In third place in this race came Olympians Mahe Drysdale and Olaf Tufte. The Olympic silver medallists Gary and Paul O’Donovan, the Irish brothers who made a splash on social media and elsewhere after their historic second place in the Men’s Lightweight Doubles in Rio, took a sixth place in the race.
In an interview for Row2k.com, the O’Donovans told the reporter Oli Rosenbladt that this was their first time in America. Paul O’Donovan told Rosenbladt that, ‘Kjetil’s gonna take us to the Irish pubs later. He’s going to show us around the town, and we might find a few Irish pubs for us to get a sense of the community here’.
So speaks a true Irishman.
