The Danes are a very friendly people, which both photographer Jan Servin and I noticed when we arrived to Lake Bagsvaerd on Wednesday, the day before the 2016 World Rowing Master Regatta started. It began already outside the Regatta Office, where we had arrived to pick up our press accreditations. A group of FISA officials came out of the office and greeted us with ‘hellos’ and big smiles, although Jan and I had never seen them before, but we politely nodded our heads to the FISA party. It suddenly struck me that, as I had not had the chance to change my clothes from when I stepped out of the airplane earlier that morning, I looked exactly like the FISA people: blue blazer and khaki-coloured trousers.
The following day, Jan and I put on our brand new HTBS neon-yellow vests, created by Jan, indicating that, at least Jan was a photographer – I had mine on for the heck of it. Of course, the latter spoiled my chance to be incognito at the regatta. Yes, I was recognized by some Swedish rowers, who are readers of HTBS, but also by a gentleman from Marlow RC, a club which had several crews competing at WRMR2016. It is an absolute pleasure to interact with the readers of HTBS.
At the beginning of the regatta, there was big problems with the wifi, as no one seemed to be able to hook up with cyberspace. I had hopes to fill my first report on the spot during the first race day, but that proved to be impossible. Instead I kept myself busy with organisering Jan’s many photographs. Here follows the second picture cavalcade of his beautiful photographs. Enjoy!
