Some Hints About Sculling

The other day I came across a very nice photograph of Ted Phelps and Robert Taylor. It is from the filming of the movie A Yank at Oxford from 1938, which I have written about in an entry on 3 August 2009. The British professional sculling champion Ted Phelps is in this photograph seen giving the American film star Robert Taylor some hints about sculling. Especially note the old-fashioned foot stretcher (or clogs), rowlock (oarlock), and the hard, wooden sliding-seat. Of course, the riggers are the good old non-aerodynamic, non-wing ones of metal.
