Today, Midsommarafton (Midsummer Eve) is celebrated in Sweden, which has its roots from an old pagan festival. So, I say “Glad Midsommar” to the HTBS’s readers in Sweden.
However, “Midsummer”, the period in the middle of the summer, around Summer Solstice, is celebrated in many countries. Early on, different churches took over this pagan tradition to steer people towards Christianity.
For those of you who are curious about the Swedish Midsommar, last year we linked to a short video which explained everything you need to know about how the crazy Swedes celebrates this “holiday”. Take a look at last year’s HTBS piece here – and be delighted or terrified.
