Rowing to the Work Site

By Philip Kuepper

What proves difficult
is being an archeologist
whose task is to oversee an excavation site
located on the surface of the ocean,
the site always changing,
the evidence always and never
at one’s fingertips. One is left
to sift the liquid dust of who we are.
We row a labyrinth where waits at the heart
the impossible.
