6 Haikus

8 January 2020

By Philip Kuepper

Glides a rower past
embodied stillness;
an egret “thinking” to feed.

The rower found herself
amidst a sudden display
of jewels:  Mallards.

Jeweling the blue river,
sunlight glanced
off a wood duck’s head; rowers awed!

The water shaped itself
into Buddha’s smile.
Peace passed through the rowers.

Drops of water ran off their blades
like prayer beads being said;
whispered hope.

Like One Hand clapping
a leaf dropped from an oak
into a shell:  To row.
