Rowing in Sweden

After having been in Sweden for a couple of days, I received a digital post card from HTBS colleague Greg Denieffe, who was wondering how the weather was in my old home country? Well, it might not be glorious, but so far it’s not as bad as the weather showing in Greg’s card. But for sure, autumn has arrived to the south of Sweden.

During the past weekend, the Swedish National Championships were held on Lake Hjelmsjön in Örkelljunga, which was a three-day affair. On Sunday, the fog over the lake was so thick the regatta had to be postponed for several hours in the morning.

At these championships, Lund University and Uppsala University also competed in their annual Boat Race – red-coloured Uppsla took both the men’s and the women’s races.

  1. I came across Uppsala University at the recent European Universities Championships where they were “best Supporters Club” by the race commentator. They are a very keen group of rowers who are looking for A coach …. so if you are a rowing coach looking for athletes in a beautiful part of the world I’m sure they would love to hear from you!
