Dan Boyne, Smelly ‘Porgy’, the Gamut Erg and Too Many Beers

7 November 2017

Göran R Buckhorn writes:

Here follows chapter 5 of “The Seven Seat: A True Story of Rowing, Redemption, and Revenge”, Dan Boyne’s tale about his rowing and sculling days in the 1970s at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, a series published on Row2K’s website.

In this chapter, “Big Bad Erg”, Dan and his team, including smelly ‘Porgy’, are introduced to the Gamut erg, or as the crew like to call it, ‘the vomit-o-meter’. Though, Dan managed to row on the Gamut without using a bucket afterwards, it’s different when Coach Poole’s old rowing pals take the crew out for pitchers at the Nutshell, the crew’s favourite pub.
