Movember: Grow and Groom

An oarsman with a good-looking moustache, Banner Carruthers Johnston, a Cambridge Blue in four Boat Races, 1904-1907. He was also an Olympic gold medallist in the eights in 1908 at Henley. One could say that Banner was a real ‘movemberner’, being born on 10 November 1882.

Göran R Buckhorn writes:

It’s Movember again, the month when men and women get together to raise awareness and funds for men’s health, especially to fight prostate, testicular and other cancers. Celebrating Movember has earlier been popular among rowers in Australia (where Movember started in 2004; though a group of Aussies came up with the idea in 1999, in a pub, of course), Great Britain, Canada, USA and many other countries around the globe. To be honest I am not sure how Movember will play out among the male and female rowers around the world this year, but whether you are rowers or not, I believe it’s a cause worthy of our attention, as I have written previously on HTBS – take a look here.

For those of you who have no idea what Movember is, here is a video about the ‘Mo-Movement’ Movember:

So, gentlemen, shave and start growing a lovely moustache!
