The USA crew was I think Robert Dreher not Drener…. that race also marked the first instance of adjustable length blades being used.
Dreher's Father is Jim Dreher owner of Durham Boat Co and to save money shipping oars to Australia, he invented an adjustable length scull handle. Before this time, any variation in oar length meant shipping two or more pairs of blades. Jim makes Dreher oars and sculls and continues to innovate in rowing engineering design.
