Cover Your Flanks…

Michiel Jonkman sent HTBS a link to an incredible ‘old’ race from 1990 that I must confess I have totally forgotten. Lesson to be learned? Don’t forget to cover the flanks! That goes for both the athletes and sport commentators. Over to the 1990 World Championships in Tasmania, men’s lightweight double sculls:

  1. The USA crew was I think Robert Dreher not Drener…. that race also marked the first instance of adjustable length blades being used.

    Dreher's Father is Jim Dreher owner of Durham Boat Co and to save money shipping oars to Australia, he invented an adjustable length scull handle. Before this time, any variation in oar length meant shipping two or more pairs of blades. Jim makes Dreher oars and sculls and continues to innovate in rowing engineering design.
