World Rowing reported the other day that Bahamas has been suspended from the organization.
As a consequence of the Bahamas Rowing Federation’s failure to comply with the obligations of Member National Federations under the World Rowing Statutes, the World Rowing Executive Committee has suspended the Bahamas Rowing Federation as a member of World Rowing with immediate effect.
The Executive Committee has identified several allegations related to alleged breaches of the World Rowing Statutes, including the requirements related to Art. 13, one of which in particular being the current non-recognition of the federation by the Bahamas Olympic Committee.
As per the Bye-Laws to Article 15 of the World Rowing statutes, “if a Member Federation does not fully comply with its obligations, the Executive Committee may suspend the Member Federation from membership (totally or partially) for a fixed period or until a specified set of circumstances has changed or ceased to exist”.
The World Rowing Executive Committee hopes for a quick resolution of the situation. Bahamas Rowing Federation was given a fixed period to address its outstanding non-conformities with the World Rowing Statutes.
Upon resolution of the areas of non-compliance, the World Rowing Executive Committee will meet again to discuss the possible reinstatement of the Bahamas Rowing Federation.
