The “Grand Finale”
World Rowing and the Organising Committee of the 2022 World Rowing Championships had arranged a 500-metre race to honour the Czech sculler Ondřej Synek, who retired from elite rowing last year. Invited to this exhibition race, which HTBS wrote about on 14 September, were five of Synek’s main rivals and close friends: Alan Campbell of Great Britain, Iztok Čop of Slovenia, Mahé Drysdale of New Zealand, Lassi Karonen of Sweden and Olaf Tufte of Norway. The Norwegian was in the lead for most of the race but “faded” just in front of the finish line as did the other scullers except Synek, who crossed the finish line as the winner.
CZE, Everyone else

Excellent performance by all the G.B. Crews at the World Championships, especially after the disappointment of last year. B’ marvellous!
Beggar’s the question was it because , or in spite, of the bloodletting in British Rowing post the Olympic Regatta results ?
