HTBS reader Ralf-Peter Stumme of Germany reminds us of an English rowing race that started 190 years ago!

Today, it’s exactly 190 years ago, the world’s best-known sports event started for the first time: The Boat Race.

190 years of great sport and 190 years of press reactions too. Here the account of a not named eye witness of the first race taken from The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Races (Cambridge 1870).

I think the most rowing enthusiasts know it.
