Rogue RC – U.S. Club of the Year 2017

The other day, USRowing announced that Rogue Rowing Club, which members row on Emigrant Lake in Ashland, Oregon, has been named the 2017 USRowing Club of the Year. In a press release USRowing writes:

‘I am incredibly honored to accept this honor on behalf of our entire rowing community at Rogue Rowing,’ said Executive Director Rick Brown. ‘We are all extremely proud to be recognized for the tremendous contributions we have made within the Rogue Valley and Southern Oregon but also our relationship with USRowing and for the National rowing community.’

The award recognizes outstanding efforts put forth by a club in improving rowing opportunities, involving membership and also the local community. Recognized clubs additionally serve as an example to the rowing community and the general public of outstanding organizational leadership, involvement in USRowing, expanding competition opportunities, community service, safety, performance and volunteer development.

All USRowing member organizations are eligible to receive the Club of the Year Award. Points are awarded to clubs for dedication to excellence in competition, the growth of rowing in their community, and the promotion and safety of the sport. Award criteria include: performance, community outreach, service to rowing, USRowing participation, technology and communications, and safety.

The Ashland club is honored for their programs offered to an extensive range of ages and skill levels. These include Rogue Rowing’s adaptive rowing program, which works to include athlete of all abilities in the sport.

‘Our club has a rich history and a strong foundation that was built by many hands in many different capacities,’ said Brown and continued, ‘we continue to build upon this strong foundation and look forward to even more growth with our amazing staff, volunteers and diverse membership of rowers.’

Rogue Rowing Club will be honored at the 2017 USRowing Convention on 30 November-3 December 2017 in Sarasota, Florida.
