The Coxswain

Bobby Moch, 1936

The Coxswain

The cox found his rhythm
in the way the water
received the shell,
a rhythm into which he slipped
the crew, rhythm like a skin
they wore as one,
a skin of speed
that took them
deep to the heart
of the race.
