Mystic River

The sleek black shell
Cut the dark gray river,
Cut it silently,
Oars dipping into it
By the black-clad rower,
Early morning, silver light,
The soft shrugging breath of after-sound
Suspended in the air
In the rower’s wake:
Benediction.
