Malmö Roddklubb was competing in a mixed eight at the Vesta International Masters Head of The River Race on the Thames on Sunday, 29 March. The Swedish club was hosted by the London club Sons of the Thames Rowing Club, which provided both the boat and the eminent cox, Trevor Cave. When Malmö’s Per Ekström got a last-minute-ban from his doctor not to row, Vincent McGovern, an Irishman rowing for the Belgian club Koninklijke Roeivereniging Sport Gent, gallantly stepped in to take Per’s 6 seat.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t cooperating, so the 4.2-mile row on the Championship Course between Mortlake and Putney was a blustery and rainy affair.

Photographer Marie Barge, whose husband Thomas rowed in the 5 seat, shot some nice pictures of the Malmö crew.
