The 2025 Great River Race (GRR) was held on the Thames on Saturday, 20 September.

The Great River Race is London’s River Marathon, which started in 1988 with 61 boats, and now has around 300 crews taking part. It’s an international event with competitors from America, Australia and many European countries. The crews are rowing the 21.6 miles from Millwall in the East to Richmond in the West, travelling under the bridges of the River Thames.

The boats taking part in the Great River Race have “fixed seat” and are based on the Watermen principle, each crew must carry a passenger and cox along with a 3’ x 2’ flag. A handicapping system is used to ensure fair play, according to the Race website.

As HTBS has written in an article on 28 July, photographer Henry Reichhold had situated himself in the Shell Building with the aim of including all the boats that took part in the Race on 20 September. See the photograph on top. Starting Monday, 6 October, Henry, together with GRR, will sell the poster. Go to Henry’s website to order your copy.

Also, go to GRR’s website to get all the information you need to take part in the Great River Race next year!
