In a press release, World Rowing has announced that the 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, which were scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in October has been cancelled and will be held at an alternative location and date.

World Rowing writes:

Despite extensive efforts by World Rowing to address significant delivery challenges and following a recent decision by the Brazilian Rowing Federation (CBR) to withdraw from the organisation of the event, no viable local solution has been secured through alternative local stakeholders. World Rowing must now formally confirm the cancellation of the event at its originally intended location.

This outcome is disappointing for the International Rowing community, especially for athletes, coaches, and fans who were preparing for a pivotal competition on the pathway to the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. World Rowing also deeply regrets the disruption this causes for all stakeholders who have already begun making travel and accommodation arrangements.

World Rowing is now actively seeking an alternative host to stage the 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals within the shortest possible timeframe. Further updates will be provided as soon as they are available.

We thank the Rowing community for its understanding and continued support as we work to ensure the success and future of Beach Sprint rowing on the road to Dakar 2026 and Los Angeles 2028.
