Christ, the beauty of them,
Christ, the strength,
of the young Aussie men
who make up the lifesaving
brigades. They pound through
walls of surf with their oars,
pound through danger
as though it is a game,
lacrosse players playing
on a field of water.
To watch them is to watch
powerful forms of energy
in action. And to save lives
makes them
sons of the resurrection,
lives that otherwise
would have been
buried in the tomb of the devouring sea.
