By Philip Kuepper
We awakened to the blue eye of the sea,
open wide, gazing up at the sky,
a sky that was gazing back down on it.
We had awakened caught
between the two all-seeing eyes.
We felt we were being seen through.
The boat was nowhere near a shore.
We were caught out
by the truth of us.
But then what was there to hide?
We had no reason to lie.
We saw one another, clearly.
We had confessed love,
as we understood love.
We were committed, like rowers to the race.
We were out there, in the open,
only the elements to protect us.
There was no turning the boat around.
The water raced. We could only go
the way the water went.
We were racing in the All-Seeing Eye.
