Calm Dawns

12 June 2024

By Philip Kuepper

Calm, the waters
take the rowers to heart,
enfold the rowers’ shells
in the silk of waves.
How smooth the moment;
how impossibly smooth.
Oars glide through the silk,
the river a scarf, delicate.
Here, power and softness mate.
Here, the muscle, flexed,
the body, receptive.
Here, the flowing occurs,
the rowers generating sport,
the rowers, rapt,
the rowers wrapped
in the silk of the river.
