Sad news reaches HTBS that Clive Radley passed away on 10 May.

Clive had many interests in life, the most prominent ones were music, sports, including rowing. He came from a long line of boatbuilder and rowers, men and women. During 2015 and 2016, Clive wrote several articles for HTBS (see here for articles he wrote and articles where he is mentioned). Being a great Beatles fan, he wrote a fine article about George Harrison and Henley for HTBS on 15 March 2016.

His background was aircraft engineering, and he wrote books on the subject but also about rowing. Among the latter is his brilliant book, The Radleys of the Lea, (2015), about his boatbuilding ancestors.

He was a philanthropist and made a number of generous donations to organisations and charities. One of the recipients was the River and Rowing Museum in Henley.

For his last years, Clive struggled with dementia and passed away peacefully at Farnham Mill Nursing Home where he had lived since Christmas Eve 2022.

Clive’s funeral will be held on Monday 10 June at 2 pm at St Peters Church in Frimley. Thereafter there will be a Celebration of Life at the Frimley Hall Hotel. Everyone is welcome to attend. Clive has requested a “high quality buffet” and a champagne toast. If you will be attending, please contact Alex Warren at: alexwarren1975 – at – hotmail – dot – com
