The 157th Yale-Harvard Regatta will be held on Saturday, 8 June, on the Thames River in New London.

To celebrate “The Race”, as it is known, the United Theatre in Westerly, Rhode Island, together with Stonington Community Rowing, Inc., will present a special evening with Steve Gladstone, Yale’s legendary coach who retired as the Bulldogs coach last season, and National Rowing Foundation Director Bill Miller, known as one of the regular contributors to HTBS.

Gladstone, who coached Yale for 13 years, winning The Race the last five times, will share fascinating first-hand experiences and insights about the historic regatta. Miller, an Olympian and collegiate oarsman and coach, will discuss some of the rich history behind the regatta. He will also talk about the 1869 Great International University Boat Race between Harvard and Oxford, a race that took place on the Championship Course, Putney and Mortlake, on the River Thames in London.

A reception will follow the presentation with special artifacts on display from the Mystic Seaport Museum’s collection.

The talks will be held in the Main Cinema at the United Theatre on 5 Canal Street in Westerly, R.I., on Thursday, 23 May at 7 p.m.
