Tim Koch reports from the Boat Race finish where emotions were higher than the tide.

The custom that dictates that the victors go ashore first also allows the other crew time to gather their thoughts and their breath.
The Cambridge stroke, Matt Edge, who became semi-conscious during the last two-and-a-half minutes of the race, is taken away for medical checks. The immediate treatment seemed to be a banana and some water.
President Jenna Armstrong lifts the women’s race trophy on behalf of her crew.
Let us spray.
Warm sparkling white wine never tasted so good.
Quite pleased.
The Cambridge men, minus Matt Edge, take to the platform.
President Seb Benzecry goes for silver.
A bubble bath.
The day’s three winning Cambridge crews, the men’s and women’s Blue Boats and Goldie, the men’s reserves.
An unsteady Matt Edge is helped onto the platform.
A man hug for Edge from the person who briefly took over the job of stroke, “7” man, Luca Ferrero.
The Cambridge Blues.
Tom Lynch (“6”) rehydrates.
Tom Marsh (“3”) and Jenna Armstrong (“4”) do not have to try too hard to smile for the camera.
Oxford did have one victory on Saturday, Osiris won the women’s reserves race by five lengths.
Goldie, the Cambridge men’s reserves, won their event by four lengths. Picture: @Cambridge_Uni.
There was no throwing the winning coxes into the Thames this year so here is a picture of Cambridge dunking their cox, Martin Haycock, in 1993. The oarsman on the left, Richard Phelps, umpired this year’s women’s race.
While the youngsters were celebrating (or not), the grown ups were quietly marking another special occasion, Boris Rankov’s fiftieth year of being part of the Boat Race: “Oarsman, Umpire, Chairman”. Pictures: @matthewcpinsent.
Cox Hannah Murphy (left) and “7” Clare Hole await transport to the Cambridge Boat Race Dinner. It could be a long night…
