On 12 March, Hear The Boat Sing will celebrate fifteen years since its first post. We have held a lunch every five years to mark this anniversary and the Quindecennial Luncheon will be on Saturday, 16 March, at the Duke’s Head, 8 Lower Richmond Road, Putney, London SW15 1JN.

Between its founding in 1922 and moving to Kew in 1986, Putney Town Rowing Club occupied the lower floor of the Duke’s Head.

The lunch will be three courses with a choice of one of four items from each. The cost is £45. Numbers are limited so contact me at tim(dot)koch123(at)gmail.com to book your place.

The bar and the dining room of the Duke’s Head. A pub has been on the site since 1774, though the current building was erected in 1864 and the interior fittings date from 1894.

Both Putney and the Duke’s Head are very appropriate venues for those interested in rowing history. Putney is the historic centre of British amateur rowing and many decisions regarding the sport and its clubs must have been made in the Duke’s bar. Perhaps the HTBS Lunch will become another part of that history?

  1. Would have loved to be there – but will be in Penrith, as a volunteer at AUS Nat Champs. I am visiting many of the places around the world which Peter and I visited together. Penrith was certainly one of his favourites. My best wishes to all – and hope to see you at HRR. Karon
