HTBS@15: The Quindecennial Luncheon

12 January 2024

By Tim Koch

Tim Koch requests the pleasure of your company.

On 12 March 2009, Göran R Buckhorn started his first post on his new “Blogspot” site by writing, “Against better judgment I have become a blogger.” That was fifteen years, 4,657 posts and nearly three-and-a-quarter million views ago.

Since 2009, an incalculable number of other blogs and websites have come and gone, most leaving no discernible trace, like the puddles of a novice eight. Strangely, a site mostly concerned with the more obscure aspects of a minority sport has survived and thrived, albeit more like a small cult rather than a mass movement.

The Rower’s Lunch by Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1875).

Like all worthwhile achievements, this anniversary needs to be marked with a good lunch. Sadly, there is no central meeting point for the HTBS worldwide readership, so I will be organising a “Quindecennial Luncheon” in London in mid-March. Details will follow soon. Are there any offers to hold a similar event elsewhere in the world?
