GOD JUL

“Christmas Eve” by Swedish artist Carl Larsson, 1904.

24 December 2019

By Göran R Buckhorn

While most cultures and countries that celebrate Yuletide do it on 25 December, the ‘big’ day of Christmas in the Nordic countries is Julafton (Christmas Eve). In pre-Christian time, the pagan celebration of Jul is described in Old Norse sources as a time to drink Jul or Yule – a time to drink and eat well. This is still a tradition followed by many people in the Nordic countries.

However you celebrate these days in December – or not –, I wish you HTBS readers and contributors a peaceful time.
