to boats a united
nations of talent, of grit,
five of the seven
continents:

Scandinavians, Europeans,
North, and South, Americans,
Asians, Africans, Middle Easterners.
Greek works with Turk,
Jew with Arab,
African with Anglo-Saxon,
English with French,

to row the boat forward,
to carve the water with passage,
oars, chisels,
the sea, malleable marble,
shaped by hands
of individual genius.
