In the wake of the success of this year’s World Rowing Championships, which is reported to have brought in $22.6 million in economic impact to Florida, due to thousands of visitors, athletes and international delegates, Florida House Speaker Richard Corcoran (R) has asked Sarasota County and Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Associates, the nonprofit board that runs the Nathan Benderson Park, to provide documentation of how they spent the $15 million in state funds they received to construct the rowing facility, Herald-Tribune reported in an article on 28 November.
