On 18 of September, Scotland is going to vote whether it is going to be independent or not. Being a nation of its own (Scotland went into a personal union with the kingdoms of England and Ireland in 1603 and a political union with England in 1707, according to Wikipedia) a lot of interesting questions arise. One of the most interesting ones, at least for HTBS – and we do not take sides – is what will happen to the rowers from Scotland who are now competing for Great Britain? Will they row for an independent Scotland, or can they continue to race for the GB Team, for example at the Olympic Games in Rio? Yesterday, Ben Rumsby wrote about this question in the Daily Telegraph, read the article here.
